BetOnline Poker Review

BetOnline PokerAlthough our BetOnline Poker review has been compiled to compliment the BetOnline Casino review that appears on, it is a poker site we are very familiar with. We have regularly played at BetOnline Poker since the site became the flagship skin on the Chico Poker Network and substantially increased it bonuses in 2013.

Writing a BetOnline Poker review from the perspective of reviewers, rather than as players, has opened our eyes to some opportunities we had not considered before. The weekly leaderboard competitions can be quite lucrative for players with the time to dedicate to them, and – because the site welcomes players from all over the world – you are sure to get a game any time of the day.

The BetOnline Poker First Deposit Bonus

The BetOnline Poker first deposit bonus is a 100% match on first deposits from $50 up to $1,000. Sadly the upper limit was reduced from $2,500 in May 2018 due to bonus abuse, but nonetheless, it is effectively free money with no withdrawal restrictions once the clearing requirements have been met. However, poker bonuses are a little different from casino bonuses in how they are applied.

This bonus offer is available to new players and to players who have already taken advantage of BetOnline Casino and sportsbook bonuses. Unlike most of the site´s casino and sportsbook bonuses, the bonus is not applied automatically nor added to your account automatically. It is cleared in increments of $10.00 as you earn Poker Comp Points (more about this below).

In order to take advantage of our exclusive bonus offer, you have to enter the BetOnline Poker bonus code “VIP1000” into the “Promotional Code” field of the poker cashier when making your first poker deposit. Then send an email to with the promo code “VIP1000” in the subject line of your email. Please remember to include your account number in the body of the email.

Clearing the BetOnline Poker Bonus

If you are familiar with how online poker bonuses work, you will have no difficulty understanding the process for clearing the BetOnline Poker bonus. If not, you need to be aware that – unlike casino bonuses – the full amount of your bonus is not credited to your account straightaway. As mentioned above, it is cleared in increments of $10.00 as you earn Poker Comp Points.

Poker Comp Points are earned at the rate of 100 points for each $1.00 you contribute to the rake deducted from cash games of poker or pay as a fee to enter a BetOnline Poker tournament or Sit & Go game. Please note that Poker Comp Points are earned pro rata in cash games (you get points for contributing less than $1.00 in rake) but not in tournaments or Sit & Go games.

Each time you earn 5,000 Poker Comp Points, $10.00 of your outstanding bonus is added to your account until the full amount of your bonus is cleared or you run out of time. You are allowed thirty days to clear as much of the bonus as you can and, as soon as each bonus payment is released into your account, you can cash it out without any further rollover or play-through requirements.

The Choice of Games and Tournaments

While you are clearing the online poker bonus, every type of poker game counts 100% towards the wagering contribution – and there is a good choice of games at BetOnline Poker. Most players head directly to the NL Texas Hold´em cash games, as this is the most popular format of poker played online. The site also hosts cash games of Omaha Poker, Stud Poker, 32 Card Draw and Americana.

All of the site´s Sit & Go games and poker tournaments are played under the NL Texas Hold´em format. There is a pretty healthy variety of Sit & Go games available at different speeds and different structures, but watch out for the structure of the poker tournaments. Most tournaments are “re-buy and add-on” events, meaning you will likely have to spend two or three times the buy-in to be competitive.

Generally, the standard of play at BetOnline Poker is pretty good. At most online poker sites you can usually follow the gruel that the higher the stakes, the better the standard. However, in some jurisdictions, BetOnline is the only viable option for online poker players, so even some of the low-stakes players are experienced and know what they are doing.

Available Poker Game Variations

Other Available Games

Away from the poker tables, having a BetOnline account has multiple benefits if you like sports betting or casino games. The BetOnline sportsbook is one of the largest in the world, while the online casino offers high definition live dealer games, plus a massive variety of slots, table games and speciality games. You can even bet on eSports and the financial markets.

Other Promotions and Player Benefits

BetOnline Poker is one of the few online poker sites that do not have a player loyalty program. There is no opportunity to exchange the Poker Comp Points you earn clearing the bonus for cash, and the only way you can use them is as buy-ins for selected Sit & Go games and poker tournaments. Although these events pay out cash prizes, they are competitive because everybody has thousands of points to use.

The poker promotions however are pretty good – provided you have the time to dedicate to them. BetOnline Poker runs weekly cash game, Sit & Go game and tournament leaderboard competitions with $20,000 in cash prizes up for grabs. The leaderboards are each divided into three buy-in levels so that even players with modest bankrolls have the opportunity to pick up a prize.

Other player benefits include a packed line up of freeroll tournaments with cash prizes – including one with a $5,000 prize pool exclusively reserved for new players – and low buy-in “Steps” programs that feed into the site´s more valuable tournaments. Not a lot really for recreational players, but worthwhile looking into if you have the time to be competitive in the promotions.

Deposits and Withdrawals – Fees, Limits and Timescales

In the years we have been playing at BetOnline Poker, we have never had an issue with depositing or withdrawing. Usually, provided you have verified your account and supplied proof of ID – and understand what fees, limits and timescales apply – withdrawal requests are seamless, although they can be expensive and take longer to process than on some other online poker sites.

The deposit withdrawals are standard throughout the BetOnline site. You can fund your account by Visa, MasterCard, Person to Person Transfer, Money Order (U.S. only), Check, Bank Wire, Bitcoin and Litecoin, and – if you live outside the U.S. and Canada – Neteller or Skrill. Watch out for credit card fees on Visa and MasterCard deposits under $300 and the low maximum limit on Person to Person Transfers.

Withdrawals can be requested via Person to Person Transfer, Check, Bank Wire, Bitcoin and Litecoin, and – if you live outside the U.S. and Canada – Neteller or Skrill. You are allowed one free withdrawal per month. After that – with the exception of Bitcoin and Litecoin – you will have to pay a withdrawal processing fee of anything between $20 (Skrill/Neteller) and $101 for a Person to Person transfer.

Player Security & Customer Support

BetOnline Poker has a very good Customer Support service. It can be contacted around the clock by email or toll free phone, and there is also a live chat facility in the cashier that should really only be used if you are experiencing issues with deposits and withdrawals, but is a handy way to get around the queues to speak with a Support representative during peak times. Please note the same telephone number provides support for sports bettors and casino players, so is usually busy on a Sunday night.

BetOnline first started taking online transactions in 2001 under the name In all the time since, the amount of information the site has provided about how it protects players from fraud or theft – and how it ensures the fairness of its games – has been limited to say the least. However, having been a leading US-facing poker site for more than fifteen years indicates that BetOnline´s players trust it more than any certificate hidden away in the help pages of the FAQ section.

What to Like and Dislike about BetOnline Poker

There is plenty to like about BetOnline Poker, but also a couple of things that we felt the site could improve on. Certainly for poker players in the U.S., Australia and ring-fenced states in Europe, BetOnline Poker is viable option compared to either having no option at all or playing in a liquidity-limited environment, but it does have its faults:

2020 BetOnline Poker Review Conclusion

If we were to draw just one conclusion from our BetOnline Poker review it would be that it is worth registering for an account just to take advantage of the first deposit bonus. Even though the upper limit was reduced, the bonus is comparable to the best you will find at any online poker site. Whether it is worth staying loyal to the site after that depends on the nature of player you are.

The lack of a player loyalty program is a major disadvantage for many recreational players; although those with more time on their hands will benefit from the weekly leaderboard competitions. There are also issues with the software, and withdrawal fees that mean you have to think carefully about when you time your withdrawal requests and how much they are for. It is a close call, but the guarantee of around the clock action swings it for us.
